Unknown gunmen, yesterday, kidnapped a manager with the Nigerian Agip Oil Company, Mr. Dienye Nehemiah, while his driver was shot and critically wounded along Ada George Road in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
Although the kidnap was confirmed by Police PRO Ireju Barasua, there were, however, conflicting stories about the incident. While one version had it that he was picked up at Ada George Road, another said he was taken at his residence in Mgbuoba area of the capital.
While Barasua said investigations were in top gear to set the man free, no group has claimed responsibility for the act and no ransom has been made public. His driver is said to be in stable condition after being operated upon at a hospital.
Kidnap in the region has become fashionable for pecuniary purposes and not for the struggle for improved standard of living of the people. About two weeks ago, the wife of oil mogul Lulu Briggs, was abducted and set free after a few days.
A retired professor was later picked up by some hoodlums shortly after Mrs Sienye Briggs was turned loose. Nehimiahs abduction is the latest.
