A FEDERAL High Court in Port Harcourt, River State will tomorrow deliver judgement on the suit filed by the former governor of the state, Dr. Peter Odili, to prevent his arrest and prosecution by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Justice Ibrahim Buba, who had in January struck out the name of the Attorney-General of the Federation from the suit following complaints by Odili’s counsel, Ifedayo Adedipe (SAN), that the AG’s office had not shown enough commitment to the matter, said he would deliver judgement on the case tomorrow.
When the matter slated for hearing yesterday was called, Justice Buba said the ruling was not ready. He then fixed the ruling for tomorrow.
Odili, who was accused by the EFCC of gross abuse of office and looting of the state’s treasury was absent from court yesterday.
He had gone to court last year to challenge the power of EFCC from using the result of an investigation to prosecute him.
The EFCC counsel, James Binang, had argued that the case being cited by Odili’s lawyer did not include his client as a party in the case and cannot benefit from the order of the court, which is already being contested at the Appeal Court in the state.
