Shell recovers 170,000 bpd from production shut-in

The Dutch oil firm, Shell Petroleum Development Company, has reaped from the prevailing peace in the creeks of Delta State as 170, 000 barrels of crude oil per day have been recovered from the production shut-in in its western operations in the Niger Delta region.
Reports available to our correspondent on Sunday from SPDC�s operations in Warri, Delta State, showed that the Dutch oil firm had recovered 170,000 bpd in the area as at Friday.
The company had recovered 115,000 bpd in January.
Consequently, our correspondent gathered that the production strength of SPDC in the country had risen to about 450, 000 bpd.
Findings by our correspondent showed that eastern operations of the company, with the headquarters in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, accounted for about 280,000 bpd.
The Dutch oil conglomerate produced about 1.1m bpd before crises engulfed the region in February 2006.
The EA fields of the company in Bayelsa State produced 140,000 bpd before it was abandoned in the wake of the bloody hostilities in the region.
The oil multinational suffered production set back to the tune of 477,000 bpd in the western Niger Delta, made up of the oil fields in Delta State and part of Bayelsa State.
The Niger Delta warlords allegedly vandalised and carted away strategic production platforms in the various fields in Bayelsa, Delta and Rivers states .
Employees of the oil firm were attacked and killed, while some were injured or abducted.
The insecurity in the region forced the management to evacuate the workers and shut down most of the platforms and production facilities.
However, findings by our correspondent on Sunday revealed that SPDC had regained most of the facilities located in the riverside areas of Delta State, as the state government and other stakeholders had managed to restored peace into the area.
A top official of SPDC in Warri told our correspondent on Sunday that the functional oil fields and production platforms of the company in Delta State were producing 170,000 bpd as at Friday.
