The Military High Command is now set to review the security arrangement on ground for all the crude oil pipelines that run across the country following their incessant attack by militants and illegal oil bunkerers.
To this effect, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant-General Luka Yusuff and his Navy counterpart, Vice Admiral Ganiyu Adekeye and the Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Mr. Abubakar Yar�Adua, on Wednesday, visited the Escravos in Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta State to inspect oil pipelines in the area.
Security sources told the Nigerian Tribune that the Military High Command was disturbed about the activities of illegal oil bunkerers that have made the oil pipelines their target in their nefarious acts.
General Yusuff, Admiral Adekeye and Mr. Yar�Adua, accompanied by Commander of the Joint Task Force (JTF) code-named Operation Restore Hope, Brigadier General Wuyep Rimtip, Commanding Officer, NNS Delta, Navy Captain Samson Ojediran and some top military officers flew out of Osubi Airport aboard two helicopters to Escravos at about 1.15pm.
Before embarking on the trip, General Yusuff had told journalists that they were in Warri to see how the troops were performing andhave a first hand knowledge of happenings in the area.
Asked further on why they have to visit Escravos, he retorted �
Escravos is their area of responsibility. We have a right to goall round to see what they are doing after hearing their brief. General Yusuff said further �they have just given us an overview. Their current situation as at today.
Then we are now going over there on the ground to see what is going on especially where we had economical effect as far as some of the information is concerned�.
