The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Saturday said that it was intensifying its manhunt for Senator Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello who has been on the run since last Wednesday.
It said that the embattled senator could not run forever, adding that she must be made to face the law for her role in the N300m Ministry of Health scam.
Obasanjo-Bello, who escaped from her house in the Jabi area of Abuja, was said to be moving from one place to the other, to avoid arrest by the anti-graft agency, pending when the coast would be clear for her to leave the city.
She has also not been to her work place at the Senate since she was reportedly declared wanted by the EFCC.
A highly placed source at the commission had told our correspondent in Abuja that the senator could run, but she could not hide.
He said, At present, we cannot say we know where she is or where she might be next; but we know for sure that she is still in Abuja, and she is being harboured by highly-placed friends within the city.
He added, The House of Representatives, we believe, has given her the best piece of advice she can get: submit yourself. This is because she cant run forever. Or would she stay away from her work?
The source stated, We have intensified efforts to bring her to book for her alleged role in the scam, and we may begin to use other legal means available to us, especially from the angle of the National Assembly.
The Senate had on Thursday mandated its Chief Whip, Senator Kanti Bello, to ascertain the whereabouts of Obasanjo-Bello and report back to it at the plenary on Tuesday.
The chief whip had moved a motion through the Senate Standing Orders 14, 15 and 16, urging the chamber to show interest in Obasanjo-Bellos safety.
He also drew the Senates attention to publications in the media where Obsanjo-Bello was quoted as saying her life was in danger.
The daughter of former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has been underground since last Tuesday when operatives of the EFCC stormed her Abuja in a bid to arrest her.
The EFCC had laid a four-hour siege to Obasanjo-Bellos 19 Alex Ekwueme Way, Abuja residence but she mysteriously escaped.
The commissions raid followed Obasanjo-Bellos failure to be available for trial over the N300m unspent of the Ministry of Health that was illegally shared.
The senator who heads the Senates committee on Health was said to have received N10m of the money, ostensibly for a facility tour to Ghana .
However, her counterpart in the House of Representatives, Dr. Alaba Ojomo, returned his committees share at the behest of the EFCC.
The scandal had led to the resignation of the Minister of Health, Prof. Adenike Grange, and the Minister of State, Health, Mr. Gabriel Adukwu, and the suspension of 10 directors, all of who are now facing prosecution by the EFCC.
The EFCC had declared Obasanjo-Bello at large because she allegedly refused to make herself available for trial.
But she apparently called the commissions bluff by publicly refuting, through her lawyers, the claim that she was on the run.
