Two people were shot dead in northern Nigeria on Sunday in clashes over over a delay in the release of party primary election results, police said.
A police officer sustained machete cuts in the incident in the Toro council area of Bauchi State, Commissioner of Police for the state, Adanaya Talman-Gaya said.
Political supporters of the two local candidates from the opposition All Nigeria People’s Party were among those involved in the clashes sparked by the delay in the release of results of Thursday’s election.
The deaths brought to four the number of people shot dead in recent political violence in Bauchi State. On April 12, two people were killed in a similar incident, for which 45 people have been arrested.
