Nigeria’s main militant group denied responsibility for an attack on a supply vessel belonging to U.S oil company Chevron Corp. (CVX) Wednesday.
“The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) is not responsible for the attack. We are aware of those behind the attack and do not support their motive,” the group said in an e-mail statement to Dow Jones Newswires at 1700 GMT Wednesday.
AFP reported Tuesday that two foreigners – a Portuguese and Ukrainian – and nine Nigerians were kidnapped late Tuesday near the oil city of Port Harcourt.
The attackers had asked for a ransom $258,000 for the hostages’ release.
