Stop maltreating Nigerians, FG tells Britain

The Federal Government on Wednesday asked the British Government to stop humiliating Nigerian passengers on British Airline.

Addressing Mr. Alderman David Lewis, the Lord Mayor of London in his office, the Attorney-General and Ministerp of Justice, Chief Michael Aondoakaa (SAN), said that the Federal Government was displeased with recent maltreatment of Nigerian passengers on British Airways flight to Nigeria.

He said, When they protested the inhuman treatment of a Nigerian being deported to Nigeria, Nigerian passengers were humiliated and treated in a very unbecoming manner.

Aondoakaa noted that even though the management of the airline had apologised to Nigeria, he nevertheless urged the Lord Mayor to use his good offices to ensure that such incidences never occur again.

He said that fate and history bound Nigeria and Britain together but warned, We should not allow the conduct of our agencies to undermine our collective goodwill, most especially as the Nigerian route is one of the most lucrative for the airline.

The Lord Mayor said he was in Nigeria to hand over the sum of 150,000 recovered from the former governor of Plateau State, Joshua Dariye.

He handed over the money to Aondoakaa in two cheques.

He told the minister that the money was recovered by the London Metropolitan Police.

He said that investigations into money laundering activities by Nigerians were on-going in Britain and gave the assurance that more money would be recovered.

He said that his country would like to work with Nigeria in the latters bid to solve its economic problems.
