FG Approves U.S. Military Base

The Federal Government has approved the establishment of the United States military command (AFRICOM) in Africa, which security sources said last night might have Nigeria as its base.The establishment of AFRICOM in Africa has generated huge controversy among military analysts, especially in Nigeria, with only Liberia coming out to support the initiative.However, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Owoye Azazi, told New Agency of Nigeria (NAN) yesterday that Nigeria was not against the establishment of the U.S. military base.This is just as a security source told LEADERSHIP last night that “Nigeria might give approval to the U.S. to set up the base in Nigeria, in view of the strategic position of the country in the socio-political and economic affairs of African nations, coupled with the increasing crisis in the Niger Delta region, which has become a world issue
