Despite his demotion from Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) to Deputy Commissioner (DCP), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu may not be recalled from the Senior Executive Course (SEC) 30 at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS). He may also be allowed to wear the rank of commissioner of police which he was due to be promoted to this year. A source told our correspondent that the police authorities had decided not to recall Ribadu, who has less than three months to complete the course. The source said: “We have no plan to recall him because he has less than three months to complete the course. It would be unfair to waste scarce resources on his training without anything in return. “We also took note of the fact that Ribadu is minimally qualified to wear the rank of a commissioner. He was made a DCP on October 1, 2005 and after three years; a police officer is qualified for promotion. So, he has met the minimum requirement for promotion as a CP. “On the basis of having the minimum requirement of a CP, it is assumed that he will soon be promoted a CP after the Inspector-General of Police might have initiated the process. So, Ribadu is qualified to continue with the course. “We are going to write and discuss with the management of NIPPS on the decision of the police management. I think he wont be recalled. We will also formalise his promotion and others soon.” “In correcting Ribadus demotion, he can only be made a CP, not an AIG because he has to run normal years on a rank before his promotion to the next. “His promotion to an AIG was abnormal like that of others. And to ensure a rancour-free police, we have to put in place due process,” the source added.q Ribadu, former Chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and 139 others were last Wednesday demoted by the Police Service Commission, which claimed that their promotion was illegal. |
