Gunmen Kidnap 18 Months Old Twins

Gunmen Thursday night, kidnapped two twin boys, in a Supermarket at Wimpy junction near Rivers State College of Education, Port Harcourt. The twins, who are the sons of Mr Don Kennedy, a top senior staff of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, were said to have been taken to the Supermarket for shopping by their mother Mrs Kennedy, when the incident happened.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the Rivers State Command, Rita Abbey confirmed the incident to our correspondent, saying that the police are combing all nooks and crannies in search of the kidnappers and their victims, while urging members of the public with any useful information on the incident to come forward. Abbey confirmed that the kidnappers have made a demand of N5 million to be paid as ransom to effect the release of the two babies.

The spokesperson of the Joint Task Force in Rivers State, Lt Col Sagir Musa also confirmed the incident, saying that the JTF, has combed some militant camps at Ogbakiri and Bayelsa state in search of the kidnappers but have not been successful. Meanwhile, the dreaded leader of a militant group, Niger Delta Vigilante Force (NDVF), Ateke Tom told our correspondent in a telephone chat that his group were not responsible for the kidnap and promised to liaise with other militant groups to fish out the culprits.
