Dokubo Dissociates Self, NDPVF From Fresh Attack Threat

The Leader of the Niger Delta Peoples Volunteer Force (NDPVF) Alhaji Mujahid Asari Dokubo has disclaimed the reported threat for fresh attack by some militants in the Niger Delta, credited to his group. In an online statement originating from his Justice foundation, made available to Niger Delta STANDARD, the group flatly denied either having any knowledge of the said statement or knowing the author by name Africa Ukparasia.

The statement reads: ”It has come to the knowledge of Alhaji Mujahid Dokubo- Asari Justice Foundation that faceless individuals are using the Niger Delta Peoples Volunteer Force (NDPVF) as a platform to ferment trouble in the country.” The most recent of this absurdity is the Monday, September 1, 2008 (page 8) publication of The Nation by a purported militant group claiming to be members of the Niger Delta Peoples Volunteer Force (NDPVF) and signed by “their leader”, one Africa Ukparasia.

In the said publication, they threatened to launch what it described as the phase one attack of the liberation struggle if Henry Okah is not released.” It is common knowledge that Alhaji Mujahid Dokubo-Asari, who has not hidden his aversion for the secret trial of Henry Okah by the Federal Government of Nigeria, is the Leader of the authentic Niger Delta Peoples Volunteer Force (NDPVF). Be that as it may, we write to state unequivocally that Alhaji Dokubo-Asari and the Niger Delta Peoples Volunteer Force (NDPVF) – which he heads, are not given to vandalism, sabotage or threats of any kind.

So to have used the NDPVF as a front (by any group whatsoever under any guise) to issue threats capable of destabilizing the country and misrepresenting Dokubo-Asari as a militant; is quite unfortunate, vindictive and counterproductive. We hereby write to disclaim the said publication in its entirety! Dokubo- Asari is NOT (and we repeat), is NOT a MILITANT but a FREEDOM FIGHTER. His struggle for the emancipation of the Niger Delta Region is never to destabilize Nigeria neither is it to sabotage her progress and development. Instead, it is to salvage the Niger Delta people from the years of economic bondage, political marginalization and human rights abuses.”.
