A 42-year-old man and former cemetery tender, Mr. Tunde Adenuga, was yesterday nabbed by the police for being in possession nine human skulls.
Adenuga, an indigene of Abeokuta, Ogun State, told the police that he went into that business of carting human skulls to buyers to make ends meet.
He said: I am 42 years old. I was working as a labourer in Atan Cemetery, Lagos State before I was retrenched along with others. I was left with no other thing doing than to be loitering about. I am not educated and I did not learn any trade.
Im married. About a month ago, my landlord called me and said he had increased my house rent and that I should pay for a year or pack out of the house. There was no money with me so, I thought it wise to go back to what I was doing before I was sacked.
As an insider, who knows the place very well and knowing full well that the place is porous, I beat the security and was about coming out of the place safely with the human skull when some policemen accosted me and arrested me”,.
He stated further: This is my fourth time of doing the thing. I was doing it while working as a labourer in the place but when I was asked to go, I had to stop until today (yesterday) morning when I was arrested. I sell it to one of my customers, Sulaiman Ogunyemi for N3000 each.
He also told the police that he perpetrated the evil by exhuming corpses, slicing-off their heads and other parts for his business partners, one of whom he named as Sule.
Addressing journalists in his office, Lagos State Police Commissioner, Mr. Marvel Akpoyibo, said Adenuga was caught right in front of the gate of the cemetery with two Ghana-Must-Go bags, while trying to cart the skulls away in his car.
He said: Some policemen were on patrol this morning (yesterday) along Atan Cemetery. They saw a man with two Ghana-Must-Go bags trying to put them in the boot of his car. They accosted him and on close checking, the policemen found out that the content of the bags were human skulls”.
Initially, Tunde Adenuga offered the Policemen from Sabo Police Station some money in order to let him go, but the men refused bluntly and took him to the station, when he eventually confessed to the Divisional Crime Officer, Mr. Niyi Aruna, Superintendent of Police (SP), after a careful and professional investigation, Adenuga confessed that he had perpetrated such criminal act for four times.
