Unknown gunmen struck again in Port Harcourt yesterday evening and kidnapped the Finance Manager of Intels Services, Mr. Bertrand Ajoku whose driver received several gunshot wound and is said to be recuperating in an undisclosed hospital in Port Harcourt.
THISDAY gathered that the man was returning from work at about 8pm when some gunmen blocked his car in front of his house. When the driver attempted to protect his boss, he was fired at by the hoodlums.
They later took Ajoku away to an undisclosed location. The kidnap was confirmed by spokesman of the Joint Task Force in Rivers State, Lt. Col. Sagir Musa who said that no group has claimed responsibility for the action while no ransom has been demanded.
Colleagues of the victim said that no contact has also been made and they are still anxiously waiting to know what has befallen him. They said blood stains of the driver were still visible at the scene of the incident while the glasses of the vehicle where he was at time of the attack were shattered.
βIn the evening of 25th September, 2008, the Finance Officer of Intels, Mr. Ajoku Betrand, a Rivers State indigene was abducted on his way home around NTA road, Mgbuoba. Group responsible unknown and none has claimed responsibility,β Sagir said.
He said that security agencies in the state have been mobilised towards tracking down those responsible and freeing the victim.
Wife of the victim, Mrs. Mercy Ajoku has therefore appealed to the JTF to do all within its powers to ensure the freedom of his husband while she said that things were hard for them that they cannot afford to pay any ransom for his release.
The victim was taken in a Honda car by hoodlums who arrived at his residence with Peugeot 305 saloon car.
