Confusion as Lagos govt closes Apapa-Oshodi expressway

TRAFFIC was again thrown into confusion in the Lagos metropolis following the partial closure of the ever-busy Apapa-Oshodi expressway by the state government.

The partial closure, which will last for four months, is to allow for a comprehensive repair of the road.

The disruption resumed barely a month after the residents heaved a sigh of relief following the re-opening of the Third Mainland Bridge, which disrupted traffic during its two-month repairs.

The government had earlier made provision for alternative routes to prevent motorists from going through the gridlock which usually trails such repairs.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), however, observed that most of the alternative routes were completely blocked while traffic was at a standstill.

The affected roads include those in Ijeshatedo, Itire, Lawanson, Akerele in Surulere, Orile Iganmu-Mile 2 and Ikorodu axis.

Some residents who spoke with NAN lauded the government for its commitment to infrastructural development in the state.

Others, however, called on the government to mitigate their hardship by deploying its traffic officials to the routes to control traffic.
