French police arrest Ibori’s female associate

French police on Friday reportedly arrested an associate of former Delta State Governor James Ibori, Ms Udoamaka Okoronkwo, in Paris.

Saturday Punch gathered that Okoronkwo was arrested at the Charles De Gaulle Airport as she made her way to the United States. A source said she was arrested on a European traffic warrant filed by the United Kingdom’s Metropolitan Police.

Our correspondent gathered that the Met Police was making efforts to extradite her to Britain.

Okoronkwo is being investigated in the UK in connection with corruption allegations against Ibori. She is being investigated by the Met Police along with Ibori’s former personal assistant, Adebimpe Folayinmi Pogoson; his sister, Christine Omatie Ibori-Ibie; and his wife, Nkoyo. The latter three are currently standing trial in the UK, which has also frozen Ibori’s assets worth $35 million.

Okoronkwo and Ibori are also being tried along with three companies, Mer Engineering Nigeria Limited, Bainenox Limited and Sagicon Nigeria Limited by a Federal High Court in Kaduna for allegedly laundering a total of N10.08 billion, belonging to the Delta State Government.

She is expected to be flown to the UK on Saturday (today) while she will be arraigned on Wednesday.
