BA Denies Using Bad Aircraft

British Airways yesterday reacted to allegation leveled against it by Minister of Aviation, Babatunde Omotoba, that it uses scrappy aircraft on Nigeria routes, adding that it operates one of the most modern fleet in the world.
British Airways Commer-cial Manager, Nigeria, Adrian McCloy, told aviation correspondents that the average of its fleet ranged from Boeing 747-400, the type it operates on Nigerian route, adding that the aircraft that operated the Abuja-London service a fortnight ago, which developed technical problem was 11-years seven months old.He said no aircraft is dedicated to a particular route, therefore that aircraft was not dedicated to Nigerian routes.
On compensation, McCloy said, “compensation has been guaranteed to customers. The process is on-going. Compensation varies from person to person.
Shortly after, we were dealing with disruptions, dealing with the snow… so it may take some time to sort out.”McCloy said British Airways would never use an unserviceable aircraft on any of its routes, because safety is paramount to its operations.
He also noted that BA’s operations are guided by regulations of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), reiterating that the airline takes safety and comfort seriously.
