An expatriate working in the construction company handling Ondo State road contract, Mr Luis Jose Rentad, a Portuguese, had been kidnapped by militant youths in Ajagba, Irele Local Government area of the state.
Rentad, who is an engineer working with Picolo Engineering Company, handling the new road that will link Irele Town with Ese Odo and Ilaje local government areas of the state, was kidnapped weekend, when the hoodlums numbering about 50, attacked workers of the company.
The kidnappers who were fully armed, were said to have come in about five speed boats.
The contract was awarded to the company by the state government through the State Oil Producing Area Development Commission (OSOPADEC) last year.
Recently, in Irele Local government, some suspected militant youths sacked the police station in the town and carted away all arms and ammunition.
THISDAY learnt that men of the Ondo State Police Command were making frantic efforts, in conjunction with Chairman of Irele Council, Chief Albert Akintoye, to ensure that Rentad was released.
When contacted, State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Adeniran Aremu, confirmed the story, saying efforts were being made to get the Portuguese released and allayed fear of recurrence.
