The Muslim community in Kaduna has criticisd the continued scarcity of firewood saying it is causing delay in the burying of corpses. Firewood is used to cover graves the dead people have been buried.
A Chief Imam in Kaduna said “The scarcity of the commodity has made it difficult for us to bury corpses at the yard,” he said and the scarcity has imposed additional hardship on bereaved families.
He said that about 20 corpses were being buried daily at the Bachama Road cemetery in the Tudun Wada ward of the Kaduna South Local Government Area and appealed to the government to address the issue since people might begin to abandon corpses.
Firewood dealers blame the scarcity on a ban by the Kaduna state government on the supply of firewood. But the government said, “We did not impose any ban on the sale of the commodity in the metropolis. The scarcity is deliberately created by the dealers to tarnish the image of the present administration,
