Police arrest four over kidnapping of 2 Spaniards

The Nigerian Police have arrested four men for allegedly kidnapping two Spaniards, Jose Bufi Perez and Alonso Boj Escobedo, and demanding a ransom from their families.

Nnamdi Omike, a youth corps member, Vincent Odi, Timothy Ogechi and Emmanuel Omike, allegedly invited the two Spaniards into Nigeria from Spain for a business transaction but turned around to kidnap them on their arrival.

The two men who were held hostage for two weeks in Orsu LGA, Imo state, were rescued on Monday.

According to a statement signed by the Force Public relations Officer (FPRO), Mr Emmanuel Ojukwu, the suspects after kidnapping the men, called their relations and demanded a ransom of 200,000 Euro.

However, in the course of making arrangements to collect the money, they were arrested by the Police Special Unit set up by the Inspector General of Police to deal with kidnap cases.

The kidnapped men have been handed over to the Spanish Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr Angel Losada Fernandez.

He expressed delight over the release of the victims and applauded the professional display of diligence by the Nigerian Police in rescuing the men without any casualty.
