Force Majeure on Brass River Field

ENI has declared a force majeure on 52,000 bpd of crude from the Brass River field in Nigeria. Production from the field is shared, and the measure would apply to 9,000 bpd of ENI’s equity share.

According to Dow Jones Newswire, buyers of Brass River crude said the force majeure follows damage to the Tebidaba-Brass trunkline resulting in shut-in of the Obama, Ogbainbiri, and Tebidaba flowstations.

Further details on why the force majeure was declared were not available. It is assumed that collateral damage stemming from the current fighting between MEND and the Nigerian military is responsible, but as yet unconfirmed. Petroleum Africa has contacted MEND, NNPC, and ENI for clarification and will update when the information is available.
