US denies claims of destabilization of Nigeria

The United States government has denied allegations that the country “is trying to destabilize Nigeria” as has been reported by major new spapers in the West African state, according to a statement issued by the United States Embassy in Nigeria on Friday made available to PANA in Lagos.

“The US Mission to Nigeria categorically denies the report covered in major Nigeria newspapers on Friday, May 29, saying US is trying to destabilize Nigeria. The US and Nigeria are friendly strategic partners,” the statement said.

The statement also debunked reports that the US Ambassador in Nigeria had recently paid a visit to Kaduna and also met some political parties.

“The U.S. Ambassador has not been in Kaduna since the February 2009 trip to donate bicycles to the Nigerian Police. She has not met with any political party including the PDP, nor has she made any statements regarding the upcoming trip of the US President to Ghana,” the statement explained.
