A Nigerian policeman angered by the death of his daughte rattacked hospital workers and other children on admission at the hospital, killing two of the children and injuring three doctors, the local press reported Thursday.
Policeman Raymond Egbongbonwuyi lost control after being told Wednesday by the staff at the Oni Memorial Children Hospital in the South-west city of Ibadan that his three-year-old daughter, Destiny, who was admitted at the hos pital Tuesday’s night for malaria, chest infection and burns, had died.
The officer, who also lost another daughter at a different hospital a fortnight ago, allegedly stormed the hospital ward and removed drips from children who were being treated for respiratory disorder before firing teargas at the chi ldren and the medical personnel attending to them, causing the death of two of the children while three others had to be placed on oxygen machines to revive them.
Egbongbonwuyi said he would have killed the admitted children alongside the medi cal personnel if he had had a gun with him.
Police personnel from a nearby police station were quickly deployed to the scene to save the situation.
