The police said Monday it had arrested two men for stealing crude oil from a Shell pipeline in Ahoada, near Nigeria’s oil city of Port Harcourt.
Police spokesperson Rita Abbey said the men, identified as Edwin Dick and Daniel Amadi, were arrested at the weekend after a tip-off from residents of the area.
She said two buses loaded with 37 drums of crude oil and refined fuel were also impounded from the men.
The men are to be handed over to the anti-graft Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for prosecution after the conclusion of police investigations.
Oil stealing, known locally as bunkering, is common in the oil region, but communities in the region have recently been offered incentives to protect oil facilities in their areas.
