The abductors of two German construction workers in Nigeria’s South-east Abia state have demanded a ransom of US$ 30 million, the police said Tuesday.
Police spokesman A. Okechukwu, said the gunmen who kidnapped the expatriates had made contact with some friends of the Germans.
He did not give further details but said the police were still investigating the incident.
The Germans were abducted on 18 April at the Blue River beach in the state.
This is the second time this month that expatriate workers would be kidnapped in Nigeria, after three Syrian and one Lebanese construction workers were abducted at Etche, about 30 kilometres south of the main oil city of Port Harcourt, by more than 10 armed men on 9 April.
The four were freed unharmed after five days.
Kidnapping for ransom has become a regular occurrence in Nigeria. In most cases, the victims are freed unharmed, most of them after the payment of ransom which, however, are rarely acknowledged.
