Jonathan to be sworn in as President today

Acting President Goodluck Jonathan was due to be sworn in as President Thursday morning, so he can fully step into the shoes of President Umaru Yar’Adua, who died late Wednesday at the presidential villa in the capital city of Abuja, according to the state-run Nigerian Television Authority (NTA).

The report did not give further details of the ceremony, which is expected to be performed by the Chief Justice of Nigeria.

Jonathan has been Acting President since 9 February, when he was unanimously end orsed for that position by the bicameral legislature, following the prolonged absence of President Umaru Yar’Adua, who was flown to Saudi Arabia 23 Nov. 2009 for
medical treatment.
