Barely one week after suspected kidnappers abducted two men in front of the Assumpta Cathedral, Owerri, another abduction was pulled off, on Monday at the state capital by four gunmen.
The victim, a Lebanese engineer with Roy Construction Company, supervising the road construction and rehabilitation works on the Okigwe Road in Owerri, was abducted around 9.25 a.m at Orji Junction.
Eyewitness indicated that one of the gunmen had approached the Lebanese on the site, posturing as an official from the state Ministry of Works before other members of the gang emerged, fully armed, and dragged the Lebanese into a Toyota Camry car.
The scenario caused panic, as other expatriates in other sites in the state fled their sites.
At the Ugwu Orji area of the state, where the same company was handling the construction of a commuter fly-over, two Hilux vans were seen speeding away from the site with expatriate occupants.
When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr Linus Nwaiwu, told the Nigerian Tribune in a telephone chat that he was yet to receive an official report on the matter.
