Nigeria’s Fifa executive committee member Amos Adamu is alleged to have offered to sell his vote in the contest to host the 2018 World Cup, according to a Sunday Times report.
The newspaper claims Nigerian Amos Adamu, a Fifa executive committee member, asked for £500,000 for a “personal project”, against Fifa rules.
And Oceania Football Confederation president Reynald Temarii, also wanted money for a sports academy for his vote.
Adamu has always been a controversial figure in sports in his country after several allegations of corruption were made against him involving the country’s last hosting of the All Africa Games.
The most powerful man in Nigerian sport was recently removed from his post after 18 years involvement with the country’s Sports Commission.
His removal from the post was suspicious as it came soon after the government rejected the an overly huge budget for the hosting of the U17 World Cup.
No official reason was given for his removal but it came in the wake of the then president’s rejection of the budget presented by the Adamu-led Sports Commission.
Fifa will decide the hosts of the 2018 and 2022 World Cups on 2 December.
England are competing to host the tournament in eight years time, as well as Russia and joint bids from Spain and Portugal and Holland and Belgium.
A 24-strong committee will decide by secret ballot who should host the 2018 and 2022 World Cups.
