Bomb Blast: We have Not Cleared Dokpesi – SSS

The State Security Service (SSS) has said that it had at no time cleared the Chairman of Daar Communication, High Chief Raymond Dokpesi, of involvement in the October 1, 2010 twin bomb explosion in the nation’s capital, Abuja.

In a press release signed by the Assistant Director, Public Relations of the SSS, Ms Marilyn Ogar, the service said its attention has been drawn to the misrepresentation of its recent press briefing by a segment of the media.

“We wish to categorically state that the Chairman of Daar Communications, Raymond Dokpesi (Chief) was arrested in connection with the information disclosed about him by the suspects in custody.

“The fact of his subsequent release does not in any form amount to his exoneration since investigations are still on-going”, the statement said.

The service, the spokesperson said was restating its call on everyone to avoid the politicization of an issue of serious public safety.

Ogar had been reported as having cleared the embattled Director General of the Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, (IBB) Campaign Organisation, High Chief Raymond Dokpesi, of any involvement in the Independence Day bomb blasts in Abuja.

In a related development, the SSS failed to arraign Charles Okah and four others suspected to have masterminded the bomb blast as promised by the service.

The SSS PRO had told journalists Tuesday in Abuja that the suspects would be arraigned for their involvement in bomb explosion which saw 16 persons to their untimely deaths.

When contacted by our correspondent, Ms Ogar had promised to call back after she confirmed the court, but as at press time she was yet to call, even as the suspects were not charged to court.
