Delta State governor’s election nullified

The court of Appeal sitting in Benin City this afternoon annulled the election of Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan as governor of Delta State.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC) had declared Mr Uduaghan winner of the 2007 governorship election, but Great Ogboru of DPP challenged the decision at the Delta State electoral petition panel, from where he later appealed to the Court of Appeal sitting in Benin City.

The five-man panel of judges held that the 2007 governorship election in which Mr. Uduaghan was declared winner, was characterized by malpractices.

The court therefore ordered a re-run election to be held within 90 days to ascertain the true winner of the election.
