Police Arrest Boko Haram Financier in Maiduguri
A suspected financier of the outlaw Islamic sect Boko Haram, Alhaji Bunu Wakil, has been arrested in Maiduguri with 91 other suspects during a routine check.
The Borno State Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Mohammed Jinjiri Abubakar, disclosed this at a press conference held in his office at the police headquarters, Maiduguri.
He said three giant fuel pumps, six bottles of chemicals, daggers, towels and preaching cassette of the late Boko Haram leader Mohammed Yusuf were found in his house.
Alhaji Abubakar said the financier confessed that he was a member of the sect and that six of his daughters were married to Boko Haram members, adding that the suspect is currently helping the police investigations.
He also confirmed that some of the killings were political rather than from Boko Haram and warned all political parties and politicians, stressing that any body found wanting would face the full wrath of the law.
The police boss further stated that police has arrested seven persons in connection with the killing of three innocent persons at a video club at Kabar Maila ward of the metropolis.
He said it was political thugs that trailed one of them, and that as he was looking for a cover he rushed into the club and when the thugs came to the club they opened sporadic fire on the people inside the club and killed three persons.
He lamented the unwillingness of people to assist the police with vital information, pointing out that 90 per cent of the Maiduguri residents were not willing to volunteer information and appealed to general public to assist the police with information as security was a collective responsibility.
He also called on the Shehu of Borno to convene a meeting with religious leaders, Islamic scholars and traditional rulers, with a view to come out with resolutions that would assist security agencies in crime control and prevention in the state.
