Nigeria hunts for two suspected terrorists

Nigeria government has declared two men wanted for crimes of kidnapping, terrorism and announced USD 65,000 reward for providing useful information regarding their whereabouts.

“The two men Inusa Bello (21) and Abdullahi Yunusa (24) are wanted for crimes against the state bordering on kidnapping and terrorism in the Northern flank of the country” the country”s Focal Point Committee on Terrorism said in an announcement placed on major Nigerian newspapers today.

The committee also advised members of the public to note that the men could be armed and dangerous.

Northern Nigeria has seen several attacks in recent times by a group, Boko Haram, which detests western education and attempts to convert the country to Islam.

The group founded in 2002 by one Muhammed Yusuf who was later killed by the Nigerian police caused the death of more than 700 people during a riot in the region in 2009.

Recent killings of politicians and military officers have been linked to them and they have also claimed responsibility for the bombing of northern town of Jos on Christmas eve 2010.

Nigerian parliament recently passed a law against terrorism after several pleadings from President Goodluck Jonathan to do so.

The oil rich African country has a population of 150 million people equally shared between Muslims and Christians with the former having their dominance in the northern region.
