$25bn port under way to tackle Niger Delta crises

As part of efforts to solve the lingering crisis in the Niger Delta region, a maritime firm, Dersko Marine Limited, has concluded arraignments to build a multifaceted facility valued at $25 billion in the area.

The facility will include a modern deep water port, modular fabrication yard, container manufacturer, tubular steel mills as well as dry and graving docks.

Briefing newsmen on Friday in Lagos, the company�s Group Managing Director, Weizman Atemubaghan, said the project was being handled in conjunction with some top-flight international agencies.

He added that the two-phase project, which kicks off in January 2007, would be completed in 2015.

Disclosing that a geo-technical survey had been concluded preparatory to its take-off, Atemubaghan said deals had been sealed with IHC Holland, being represented in Nigeria by Rohan Marine Limited, a marine consultancy firm, and various viable financial institutions across the globe for the smooth execution of the project.
