24-hour curfew lifted after Kano attacks

A 24-hour curfew placed on the Nigerian city of Kano after Friday’s attacks by Boko Haram has been lifted.

President Goodluck Jonathan has said the bombers who killed over 150 people in the northern city of Kano will “face the full wrath of the law”.
The Islamist militant group Boko Haram has said it carried out the series of co-ordinated gun and suicide bomb attacks on official buildings around the city.
A 24-hour curfew placed on the city after the attacks has now been lifted.
“Following the return of relative calm in the city, the government hereby relaxes the 24 hour curfew,” Faruk Jubril, Kano state government spokesman said.
Curfew times will now be from dusk-to-dawn.
Rescue workers spent yesterday picking up bodies that littered the streets following the attacks that came after Muslim Friday prayers.
Scores of such attacks in Nigeria’s north have been blamed on Boko Haram, although Friday’s would be among the group’s most audacious and well-coordinated assaults.
Around 20 huge blasts went off in the city targeting a number of police offices including a police headquarters, a secret police building and immigration offices.
