The police in southwest Nigeria’s Ekiti State on Saturday rescued three foreign nationals from abductors that seized them at gun point on Friday night, Xinhua News Agency informed.
State Commissioner of Police Kakwa Kasto disclosed this to reporters in Ado Ekiti, the state capital.
He identified the foreigners as two Syrians and one Lebanese.
He gave their names as Messrs Hani Samua (Syria), 30 years, Jebran Ammansi (Syria), 38 years and Usdeni Nurudeen (Lebanese), 18 years.
Kasto said the foreign nationals, who are working in the state as road construction engineers, were abducted by some gunmen at about 3 a.m. local time in their vehicle along Ado/Iyin road while they were returning to Ado-Ekiti.
The abductors, numbering about four, who clustered in the vehicle, were sighted by the police patrol team who were on stop and search along Ilawe road, the police officer added.
According to him, when the abductors, who were heading towards Ilawe-Ekiti, noticed that they were being chased by the police, they alighted from the vehicle and jumped into the bush and escaped.
The police boss said the rescue was made possible because of the stop and search operation he initiated on arrival at the state as Commissioner of Police.
