Pirated discs of Jackson memorial flood Nigeria

Thousands of pirated discs of the memorial service for Michael Jackson have flooded Nigeria and fans of the “King of Pop” have scooped them up, even as they sell above normal price.

A copy of the Los Angeles memorial held on Tuesday sells for 250 naira (1.7 dollars), double the usual cost of a similar disc, a buyer told an AFP reporter on Saturday.

“I can pay any price for the disc. It is my way of saying farewell to my beloved MJ,” said the 24-year-old woman.

In a run-down commercial district, a seller named Emeka Anyadike said that he and his colleagues were making brisk sales of the CDs and DVDs.

“We want to make as much money as we can before interest in the music idol begins to fade,” he said.

He declined to disclose the source of the discs, saying “it is the secret of our trade.”
