President Umaru Yaradua returned from Saudi Arabia on a private plane that landed at the presidential wing of Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport in Abuja, Nigerian media outlet Next reported Feb. 24.
The ailing president was taken by ambulance in a presidential convoy to Aso Rock. Top government officials, including the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Senator Adamu Aliero, were at Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport in Abuja to receive Nigerian President Umaru Yaradua, Nigerian daily Punch reported Feb. 24. Before his arrival, about 200 soldiers and armed policemen were deployed in the airport’s presidential wing. Media reported that soldiers were deployed in some streets in the FCT before the aircraft landed. Soldiers cordoned off the route from the airport to the city as the presidential convoy made its way into the FCT. |
