Lagos okays joint police, military patrol

LAGOS State Governor, Bola Tinubu, has said as part of efforts to curb rising crime wave, particularly the killing of notable citizens in the state, President Olusegun Obasanjo had approved a joint military-police patrol of the state.

Tinubu disclosed this at the weekend shortly after joining other Moslem faithful to observe the Eid-el-Kabir prayers. He said henceforth, it would be total war against anybody who wants to turn Lagos into a jungle.

“We will not tolerate any nonsense in Lagos again. It will be battle for battle against hoodlums in the state. Nobody can turn this state reputed for excellence into a state of anarchy,” he declared.

The governor called on the people to co-operate with the government so that the activities hoodlums could be permanently checked. He thanked the President for the approval of the security measure for Lagos.

Notable citizens killed recently in Lagos included Chief Funso Williams and Godwin Agbroko, chairman Editorial Board, ThisDay Newspaper.

Tinubu also charged Nigerians to be courageous and rise against any attempt by politicians to rig the 2007 elections. He said that the electorate had the right to freely choose those to govern them.

The governor therefore, tasked Nigerians to be committed to the course of democracy, stressing that the country should be a true democratic nation by virtue of the return of civilian rule in 1999.

Tinubu equally challenged the political class to put the interest of the people above its own by addressing the ravaging poverty in the country

“All elected officers should show compassion as leaders, be honest and work hard to the people’s satisfaction,” he said.
