Plateau State Governor Jonah Jang on Sunday in Kaduna said the absence of President Umaru Yar’Adua had left the nation without a clear direction.
Jang urged all Nigerians to embark on special prayers for peace and stability in the nation.
The governor spoke during a church service at the Church of Christ in Nigeria, Argungu road, Kaduna.
He said the nation needed fervent prayers at this time because, “nobody knows where the country is heading to.”
Jang also urged Nigerians to pray for the quick recovery of the President.
He said that Yar’Adua’s medical trip to Saudi Arabia had been shrouded in much confusion, with different people saying different things about the matter.
He said, “Nigeria as a whole needs prayers; there is the serious need for prayers because we don’t know where this country is heading to since the President left for Saudi Arabia to attend to his health. We should pray for the President, for his health and pray for the country for peace and stability.”
Addressing the congregation of mainly Plateau State indigenes in Hausa, the governor also urged Christians to pray for the success of his administration.
“You must have been hearing different stories about Plateau State, especially in the newspapers, about happenings in the state. You must have wondered why I, as a pastor and the governor, am involved in things like that.
“The fact is that Nigerian politics is very difficult because people don’t tell the truth. But as a pastor, the spirit of God has been leading me. Sometimes, one gets confused about certain things.
“I know that as a human being I make mistakes, but God has been seeing me through. I urge you to continue to pray for me,” Jang said.
