One killed as military jet crashes in Kano

A Nigerian Air Force (NAF) jet crashed in training in Kano on Tuesday, killing one of the two occupants.
Authorities of the NAF 303 Flying Training School did not disclose details at press time.
However, it was learnt that the jet caught fire as it was about to take off.
One of the occupants was burnt to ashes, the other sustained injuries and was taken to an undisclosed hospital for treatment.
The jet was recently acquired to boost the NAF fleet.
The crash coincided with the visit of Aviation Minister Fidelia Njeze, who was in Kano for facility inspection.
She broke down in tears at the crash site.
Kano Airport Manager, Mohammed Ali-Nock, said he could not comment on the accident because it is purely a military affair.
A crash also involving a military jet occurred in Kano about three months ago without the loss of life.
Three airlines – Aero, IRS, and Air Nigeria – cancelled their flights from Lagos to Kano on Tuesday following the closure of the Kano Airport runway.
Passengers were disappointed as no airline was cleared to fly to the city after DANA Air made an early morning flight.
Five airlines operate from Lagos to Kano: Arik, DANA, Aero, IRS, and Air Nigeria.
Some passengers flew with Arik and IRS to Kaduna, from where they journeyed to Kano by road.
