The leader of the Niger Delta Volunteer Force, Alhaji Mujaheedeen Asari-Dokubo, on Thursday alleged that former President Olusegun Obasanjo and a former Governor of Rivers State, Dr. Peter Odili plotted the killing of a former Deputy National Chairman (South) of All Nigeria Peoples Party, Chief Marshal Harry.
The son to the late ANPP chieftain, Inye, had on Wednesday indicted certain highly-placed persons in the state over the murder of his father.
Based on his testimony, the Rivers State Truth and Reconciliation Commission headed by Justice Kayode Eso, summoned Asari-Dokubo, among others, to appear before it.
As soon as he mounted the witness box on Thursday, the NDVF leader said he was not a gangster but that he was involved in some of the fightings that took place in Port Harcourt, Okrika, Degema and other parts of the state.
He exonerated a former Minister of Transport, Dr. Abiye Sekibo, from the destruction and killings in the state between 2001 and 2007.
�I want to say it clearly that at no time did Sekibo arm anybody. Let us tell the truth. I am not speaking for him,� Asari-Dokubo said.
He asked the commission to disregard the testimony of Harry�s son because it was misleading and a calculated attempt to smear innocent people.
The NDVF leader alleged that Obasanjo and Odili sponsored political assassinations in the state in order to perpetrate themselves in power.
He said, �The testimony of Inye Harry should be disregarded. The people he mentioned have nothing to do with the death of his father although we all believe that Marshal Harry was politically killed.
�On the day Harry was killed, I received a telephone call that Odili wanted to see me and I said for what. The person told me Harry had been killed and Odili�s hands were not in it and he (Odili) had sworn by Almighty God that his hands were not in it.
�I was asked to come because the Kalabari people will make trouble when they hear that Harry had been killed.
�I think that the government of Obasanjo and Odili are at the bottom of the killing of Harry. There is no way we can remove them from the killing because I met the young men who were alleged to have killed Harry in Kuje Prison and they said they knew nothing about it.
�They just gave them money to come and present a N20m cheque that was found in Harry�s bedroom and confess to the killing.
�They are still at Kuje prison; you can reach them if they have not killed them. Harry�s killing, Aminasoari Dikibo�s killing, the Biogbolo killings and all the other killings in Rivers State were masterminded by Obasanjo and Odili to perpetuate themselves in power. I believe it. Not that I know that they killed them, but I believe it.�
The NDVF�s leader also told the commission that Dikibo, a former National Vice-Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in the South-South, told him two days before he was assassinated that his life was in danger.
