The body of the man allegedly kidnapped from his house at Orogun in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State on December 16 was on Monday found a few metres from his house.
The man, Chief Jacob Obivwri, was said to have been abducted by yet to be identified gang at noon on the fateful day, but despite the search by the police and family members, his whereabouts were unknown until Monday when the body was found three poles to his house.
The state Police Commissioned Mr. Jacob Oshiomogho, at a news conference in Asaba on Monday, said what killed the chief might not be too far from the family since information about the circumstance was scanty from his kindred.
According to Mr. Oshionogho, the police had not relented in their investigation into the kidnap of Professor Ekureurhoho who came in to the state from Port Harcourt, Rivers State, for the wedding of his daughter recently.
He said three suspects had been arrested in connection with the killing of two pastors and a night watch man at the God’s Kingdom Society (GKS) premises in Warri while others escaped when police invaded a hideout.
He acknowledged the fact that crime had reduced in the state, even as the command had not recorded any bank robbery in the state in 2007.
However, the police boss said 10 herdsmen were shot dead at different roads around Ogwashi-Uku, Kwale, and Eku for allegedly blocking the highways to rob motorists.
Meanwhile, 21 armed robbers have been killed in the state between January and December this year while the police lost eight of its men to robbers.
