The Meridien
This gym is a small but very well equipped space. There is a good selection of your standard machines as well as the free weights.
The treadmills and the Stair Masters are nicely positioned to look out of the one way glass at the swimming pool and the Polo Club. Definitely better than staring at a wall.
Membership is N180,000 per year. N90,000 for 6 months or 25,000 if you decided to pay on a month to month basis.
The facilities are open every day from 7am till 10 pm.
There is also an in-house masseuse to help you ease away the tensions of Port Harcourt living. Massage is available by appointment from 8:30am to 9:00pm.
The changing rooms are neat and clean with secure lockers to hold your valuables while you burn off some of your business lunches.
Star King Hotel
This facility is located on the top floor of the building and offers you wonderful views out over the roof tops of Port Harcourt.
The treadmills face onto the grounds of the Polo Club so you can jog along with the horses.
Star King has the usual array of machines and a small selection of free weights. A trainer is available should you need help planning your fitness strategy.

Aristo House
So far this is the largest of the gyms we’ve visited.
It boasts everything from treadmills to spinning cycles. They have a good selection of free weights and more than enough ab-rollers to go around.
They also have a sauna if you feel the need to sweat more than is usual in this climate.

Bougainvillea
This place has all the basics that you’ll need to stop your manly chest from slipping around your boyish waist.
The usual selection of treadmill, stair masters and weight machines to chose from.
They are still working on it and promise that there is more equipment still to come. A small aerobics area is also promised.
Membership for this place is N50,000 per year for an individual and N60,000 for a family.
Membership give you free access to the gym facility as well as the fabulous swimming pool right outside it’s door.
There is a nice pool bar too for that after work out power drink.
