British International School Cricket Club:
Everything you wanted to know about Cricket in Lagos…
but were afraid to ask.
BISCC
BISCC was formed in 2004 with the following intentions:
- To give the older pupils a chance to play competitive cricket
- To give staff, parents & friends of BIS the chance to play social cricket
- To try and make sure everyone “gets a game”
- To soundly thrash the opposition whilst upholding the spirit of cricket
We play all games in the secure BIS grounds in Lekki, behind Shoprite. We have all the “hard” kit required to play, all you need is suitable sports clothing (predominantly white, preferably long trouser & collared shirt to meet league requirements) & sun screen. Games are always on Sundays as the school has activities on the playing fields on Saturdays.
The CCC League
Cricket is healthy in Lagos with the CCC league comprising 12 teams in 2 divisions. Last season BISCC fielded ten nationalities so we are the U.N. team in the league (of the other 11 teams 9 are predominantly Nigerian and two Indian/ Pakistani). Games are generally played at the TBS Oval & the Unilag grounds, except all BIS games which are played at BIS. The league runs from October through ‘til March.
We play in the second division which is of a decent Sunday social league standard, though our opponents are usually of a much lower average age. League games are 50-overs though we usually play 35-overs following mutual agreement with the opposition captain.
Following the league there is a knock out cup (also 50-over) and a 20/20 knockout, which run through April & May.
As we have our own kit & ground we’re more than happy to entertain social fixtures at any level.
Interested?
We have space for Regulars (week in week out cricketers), Occasionals/ Socials (who only want the occasional game), and Management (who give “advice” from the sidelines whilst chugging boxes of Becks).
There’s a nominal fee ( N1-2k) to cover league registration, with regulars paying a bit more than occasionals. The “management” will also invite you to chip in to keep the beer box full should you so indulge. To play competitive games you need to be registered one week in advance of playing, done through BISCC.
