I went to the Marmundo Seafood Restaurant yesterday in VI, and for any of you who have ever passed it by and wondered what it's like, do yourself a favour and give it a try, it's excellent.

I was immediatley impressed with the place as soon as I walked in the door, it's bright and airy, modern and tastefully furnished with attentive, well mannered professional staff.

I originally baulked at the prices on the menu for they were a bit on the high side for most of their dishes(between N4,000 and 5,000), but then again that is the case with most Seafood restaurants anywhere in Europe.

However, not knowing the quality of the cooking I decided to err on the side of caution and I deliberately picked a couple of their cheaper dishes. I had spicey red snapper (N2,800) and my wife had chargrilled catfish at the same price, side dishes are N1,000 and we had mixed vegetables and roast potatoes. We also ordered a seafood soup starter along with crabfish pancakes at around N1600 each. The food was very, very good and plentiful, it was professionally presented and for those of you who like the finer things in life, this place is a must to visit.
Because everything was just so good I asked the waitress about the cook, and when she told me he was an expat American chef, I realised why everything was so professionally done.

Drink prices again were on the high side, but you get what you pay for, and the relaxing atmosphere and comfortable surroundings make it well worth it. I'm a Gulder man and I was quite happy with the very acceptable charge of N500, 3 Horse's double Campari was N1,000. The bar is small, but again it's very well appointed, and I may pop in now and again just for a quick snifter.

All in all it was a very pleasant experience and will be back there very soon to try their Seafood Platter for two, recommended by the staff, which contains a selection of just about everything on the menu including lobster and some of the side dishes too. That's N10,000, but I now know it will be well worth it.

The Marmundo is on Olosa Street, directly across from the Eko Hotel. It's on the same side of the road as the Korean Restaurant and diagonally across from the Classic Café.

Incidentally they have a Children's choice on the Menu too, my little one had Fish fingers and fries followed by chocolate ice cream, and she was well chuffed.
