why The website
My thoughts behind the website were this:
If you’ve ever googled Port Harcourt, or Nigeria for that matter, you will know that there is not a lot of useful information for expats out there, although more and more blog type sites are springing up every day. Most of the pages that I stumbled upon were negative news stories of corruption, poverty and 419’s.
Some sites were by Nigerians for Nigerians. Others were just your bog standard commercial sites advertising cheap travel or international calling rates. But... None of them addressed the questions that I’d had when I first landed as Fresh Fish in Nigeria or answered the questions that I was regularly asked as an ‘Old Hand’ in town.
Someone needed to answer the basics...........
Q: Where do I buy bread?
Q: Can I drink the ice in my Gin & Tonic?
Q: Why does everybody keep calling me Oyibo?
Q: Is there a street map of PH?
And most importantly - Q: Where can I get a decent pint and watch the football?
With communications being as limited as they were at that time – this was before the great cell phone revolution of 2001 - I decided that something had to be done.
I had had some good times in Port Harcourt and had met some great people.
Yes, it could be a tough posting. No, I didn't always have electricity. No, I couldn’t drink the water but.......... Yes, I enjoyed my time....... ?!?!?!?!?!
The last one got me thinking... Really - If I was still here................. then how bad could it be?!?!?!?!?!?
