The spate of kidnappings, which had hitherto abated for sometime resurfaced yesterday as gunmen in Elelenwo, Rivers State, abducted Mr. Alawari Ndu, the younger brother to the state�s Chief Judge, Justice Iche Ndu.
The incident, which was said to have happened at 10.35 am saw a group of armed youths take Alawari away.
So far, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack nor has any ransom demand been made.
Alawari was returning from a morning service from Anglican Church, Elelenwo, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area when he was attacked and abducted.
Confirming the incident to THISDAY, spokesman for the military Joint Task Force (JTF) in the state, Lt. Col. Sagir Musa, said they had alerted all formations with a view to arresting those behind the attack.
�No group has claimed responsibility and the motive is yet to be ascertained. All the components of JTF have been alerted and directed to be on maximum alert with a view to apprehending the culprits,� he stated.
Musa also appealed to members of the public to be watchful and report any untoward and suspicious movements through the hot lines provided for that purpose.
He further assured the general public of JTF�s preparedness to protect law-abiding citizens who he advised to go about their daily lawful businesses.
