Rivers State Governor, Chibuike Amaechi, may have ordered that Omehias former aides be investigated in a bid to recover assets that reportedly disappeared from the Government House after Celestine Omehias sack on October 25.
The probe may be a fall-out of Amaechis angst over the recent claim by Omehia that he left a whopping N28 billion in the states coffers . Among items found to have been taken away on the night the Supreme Court sacked Omehia were official Camry cars allocated to the commissioners, although they were returned during the first week of the Amaechi government, when the matter was made public.

investigation, however, revealed that till date, the 12 brand new Avensis cars and 10 Hilux vans that were taken away on the same night are yet to be returned.
The cars and the vans were parked in an open field opposite the old Bricks House and were believed to have been taken out of the Government House shortly before Amaechis arrival in the state for his swearing-in.
Ironically, the stolen vehicles were around the same area where a white eagle that was given to Omehia by his community but which the former governor forgot to take along as he was leaving the Government House.

Amaechis Director of Press Affairs, Ogbonna Nwuke, however, said the government was not witch-hunting Omehia.
“These things take sometime. But I can assure you that the government is doing its best to make sure that every property of the people is returned. That much I can tell you.
“It is not strange that we have not got all of them in one go, but we are doing our best. I believe too that all those who have them understand that stealing government property wont be in their interest,” Nwuke said.
