An oil service company worker who was kidnapped in Nigeria’s main oil city of Port Harcourt last month, Mr. Bertrand Ajoku, has been released unharmed, a military spokesman said. According to Lt.-Col. Sagir Musa, spokesman for the military task force deployed to Rivers state in the restive, oil producing Niger Delta region, Ajoku, the finance officer of Intel, was freed by his abductors Tuesday evening.
Musa said he was not aware of any ransom being paid to secure the release of the oil worker, who was abducted in the city 25 September.
Kidnapping for ransom has become a routine occurrence in the oil region.
Government blames criminal groups seeking to extort money from companies and individuals for the rising kidnapping cases.
